Summary
Windows 10 will reach “end of support” on 14 October 2025, meaning Microsoft will no longer release security updates following this date.
CyberCX advises upgrading to Windows 11 where possible. If this cannot be achieved by 14 October, organisations should purchase and deploy Windows Extended Security Updates (ESU) or migrate to Windows 10 LTSC.
Affected Windows 10 editions include:
- Home
- Pro
- Enterprise
- Education
Unaffected Windows 10 editions include:
- Enterprise LTSC / LTSB
- IoT Enterprise
What is occurring?
Windows 10 is going end of support, like Windows 8 and 7 that preceded it.
End of support for Windows 10 will occur from 14 October 2025. This means that computers running Windows 10 will continue to function, however, will no longer receive software updates/security fixes from Microsoft.
Without these security fixes, computers running Windows 10 will be exposed to greater risk over time with unfixed vulnerabilities.
What do I / What does my organisation need to do?
CyberCX advises that computers running Windows 10 should upgrade to Windows 11 where possible.
You can start by identifying the assets within your organisation which are running Windows 10 and will be impacted and plan required upgrades/migrations as soon as practicable.
What if I can’t upgrade to Windows 11 before 14 October 2025?
Where upgrading to Windows 11 is not possible, it is suggested to migrate to Windows 10 LTSC or purchasing and deploying Windows ESU before the date.
The Windows ESU program offers customers continued Windows 10 security updates beyond the end of support timeline. Further information on the ESU program for Windows 10 can be found within Microsoft documentation.
